(A Story About 3 TFM – Let the Voice of Security Be Your Guide)
Inse sat at his desk, tapping his fingers against his math book. Ms. Williams was explaining fractions, but his mind was bouncing all over the place.
Maybe I should sharpen my pencil… I wonder if Alex will trade snacks with me at lunch… Oh! I still need to beat Level 10 in my game!
Then, another voice popped up.
“You’ll never get this. You’re just bad at math.”
Inse sighed. That voice had been following him around all week, and he was starting to believe it.
After school, he found Curity outside, reading on the porch. “I can’t focus in class,” he admitted. “I keep getting distracted, and when I finally pay attention, my brain tells me I’m not good enough.”
Curity closed her book. “That’s the voice of insecurity, Inse. But guess what? You don’t have to listen to it.”
Inse raised an eyebrow. “What do you mean?”
Curity leaned forward. “Think of your mind like a radio. Right now, the voice of insecurity is on the loudest station. But there’s another station playing—the voice of security. It’s saying, ‘You can do this. Stay focused.’ You just have to switch the channel.”
Inse crossed his arms. “That sounds nice, but what if the other voice won’t stop talking?”
Curity grinned. “Then turn up the volume on the voice of security! Next time insecurity says, ‘You’ll fail,’ tell yourself, ‘I’ll try again until I get it right.’ The more you listen to the right voice, the stronger it gets.”
The next day, Inse walked into math class, determined to try Curity’s trick.
When the voice of insecurity whispered, You’re not smart enough for this problem, he countered it with: I’m learning, and I’ll figure it out!
He took a deep breath and focused. The distractions were still there, but every time the negative voice spoke, he chose to listen to the positive one instead.
By the end of class, he had completed every question. Ms. Williams smiled as she checked his work. “Great improvement, Inse! Keep this up.”
For the first time in a long time, Inse felt proud of himself.
Later, he ran up to Curity. “It worked! Every time I heard the bad voice, I switched to the good one instead.”
Curity high-fived him. “See? The voice of security was always there. You just had to listen.”
Inse grinned. He finally understood. His mind was like a radio—and he had the power to choose what to tune into.
