Inse sat on the playground swing, his fists clenched tight. His friend Leo had taken his turn on the slide when it was supposed to be Inse’s, and now the voice of insecurity inside him whispered, He doesn’t respect you! You should yell at him! Show him you’re mad!
Before Inse could react, Curity walked over and sat beside him.
“Inse, I see you’re upset,” she said gently. “What’s wrong?”
“He took my turn, and now I’m just…so mad!” Inse grumbled, his face hot with frustration.
Curity nodded. “I get that. But remember what we’re learning this week? 1 TFM – Ignore the Voice of Insecurity. That angry voice in your head is making things worse. You don’t have to listen to it.”
Inse frowned. “But it feels like I should! It’s so loud!”
Curity smiled. “That’s what the voice of insecurity does. It tries to make you feel out of control. But you can choose not to listen. Just imagine those angry words as leaves floating down a stream. Let them drift away.”
Inse closed his eyes, picturing a gentle stream with tiny leaves floating away. His fists loosened. The angry thoughts didn’t seem so big anymore.
When he opened his eyes, Leo was standing nearby. “Hey, Inse,” he said. “Sorry I took your turn. I wasn’t thinking.”
Instead of yelling, Inse shrugged and smiled. “It’s okay. Let’s play together.”
Curity gave Inse a proud nod. “See? You ignored the voice of insecurity—and look how much better that felt.”
As Inse ran off to play, he realized she was right. Ignoring the voice of insecurity had helped him feel calmer—and made his day a whole lot better.
