Inse stared at his math test. The numbers blurred together, and his hands felt clammy.
“You’re going to fail,” the voice of insecurity whispered. “Why even try?”
His heart sank. That voice always knew how to make him doubt himself.
After school, he found Curity outside, reading on the porch. “I bombed my test,” he sighed. “The voice of insecurity wouldn’t leave me alone.”
Curity put her book down. “I get it. That voice can be annoying. But did you know you can use it to help you?”
Inse frowned. “How?”
Curity leaned in. “Next time it tells you something negative, don’t believe it—challenge it. Treat it like a little gremlin that doesn’t know what it’s talking about. Prove it wrong.”
Inse raised an eyebrow. “So… turn it into a game?”
“Exactly!” Curity grinned. “If it says you can’t, take it as a dare to show how wrong it is.”
The next day, Inse got another tough math problem. The voice of insecurity started up again.
“You’ll mess this up.”
Inse smirked. That’s what you think! he told it in his mind.
He took a deep breath and tackled the problem step by step.
When Ms. Williams checked his work, she nodded. “Great improvement, Inse!”
He felt a rush of pride. The voice of insecurity hadn’t disappeared—but now, he knew how to turn it into motivation.
