(A Story About 5 TFM – Befriend Your Inner Voice)
Inse sat on the park bench, arms crossed, watching some kids play basketball. He should have been out there too. But he wasn’t.
Because he hadn’t made the team.
“I practiced so hard,” he muttered. “But I still wasn’t good enough.”
Curity sat beside him. “I get why you’re upset. But remember what we’ve been learning? The fifth transformation—befriend your inner voices.”
Inse rolled his eyes. “Why would I be friends with the voice of insecurity? It just makes me feel terrible.”
Curity smirked. “Really? Or is it actually helping you in a way you haven’t noticed?”
Inse raised an eyebrow. “Helping me? How?”
Curity pointed at the kids on the court. “Think about it. What did your voice of insecurity really say when you didn’t make the team?”
Inse sighed. “It said I wasn’t good enough. That I should just quit.”
Curity tapped her chin. “But if you listen closely, is it also telling you something useful?”
Inse hesitated. “Well… I guess it is reminding me that I need to practice more.”
Curity grinned. “Exactly. It’s not always about tearing you down—it’s about pointing out areas where you can improve. It’s like a coach that pushes you.”
Inse thought about that. “So, it’s not my enemy. It’s just a little… harsh?”
Curity laughed. “That’s one way to put it. Now, what does your voice of security say?”
Inse took a deep breath. “It says that I have other strengths. That I’m good at math and that I have great friends. And that if I keep practicing, I can try again next year.”
Curity clapped. “Now you see! Both voices are part of you. One pushes you to improve, and the other reminds you of your strengths. When you listen to both, you grow.”
Inse felt a shift inside. Instead of fighting his insecurity, he could learn from it. Instead of ignoring his security, he could trust it.
“I guess I should get to work, then,” he said, standing up. “Practice isn’t going to do itself.”
Curity grinned. “That’s the spirit!”
As they walked home, Inse no longer felt defeated. He had a plan. He had both his inner voices working with him.
And that made all the difference.
