Inse’s Speech Challenge

Share Adventure

The stories grade 3-4 are deliberately written in language that is understandable for parents. So extra explanation is (intentionally) required while reading the story. This creates a more intense parent-child relationship.

The Nervous Beginning

Inse sat in his classroom, his hands sweating as his teacher made an announcement.
“Everyone will be giving a short speech in front of the class tomorrow!”

Inse’s heart started pounding. I can’t do this! What if I mess up? What if everyone laughs at me?

That afternoon, he rushed home and found his older sister, Curity, reading a book.
“Curity, I can’t do this speech. What if I forget my words? What if I look silly?”

Curity smiled. “That’s just the Voice of Insecurity talking, Inse. It’s time to use the First Transformation—Ignore that voice!”

“But how?”

“Just because a thought pops into your head doesn’t mean you have to listen to it,” she said. “Imagine those negative thoughts like leaves floating down a river. Let them go.”

Inse closed his eyes and imagined his nervous thoughts drifting away. It helped… a little.

Finding the Fun

Even though Inse tried to ignore his doubts, they kept creeping back. He frowned. “What if I still feel nervous?”

“Then let’s try the Second Transformation—Use the Voice of Insecurity for Amusement and Inspiration,” Curity said.

Inse tilted his head. “How do I do that?”

“Turn your nerves into something funny! What if you imagined the class as a group of penguins in tiny hats?”

Inse burst out laughing. “That’s silly!”

“See? Now practice your speech while thinking of the penguins!”

Inse stood up, picturing his classmates waddling around in tuxedos. He giggled and spoke. Somehow, it felt easier!

Trusting the Voice of Security

As Inse kept practicing, he started to feel more comfortable.

“This isn’t so bad,” he admitted.

“That’s because you’re using the Third Transformation—Let the Voice of Security be Your Guide,” Curity said. “That voice is telling you, ‘You’ve got this, Inse!’ Listen to it.”

Inse smiled. Maybe he really could do this.

Taking the Leap

The next day, just before his turn, Inse felt nervous again. His stomach churned.

Curity caught his eye from across the room and whispered, “Fourth Transformation—Act Despite the Voice of Insecurity!”

Inse took a deep breath. Even if he was nervous, he could still do it.

He walked to the front of the class, his heart thudding. He cleared his throat and started speaking. His voice shook at first, but as he kept going, he remembered the penguins and his confidence grew.

Befriending the Inner Voice

When he finished, the room was silent for a second—then everyone clapped!

Inse felt a rush of pride. He had done it! He turned to Curity, beaming.

“You just used the Fifth Transformation—Befriending Your Inner Voice,” she said. “Now you know that even when you feel unsure, you have the power to succeed.”

From that day on, Inse still felt nervous sometimes, but he knew how to handle it. After all, he had five transformations to help him every step of the way!

This story incorporates all five transformations! 🚀
