Inse Learns to Listen: A Story of Communication and Conflict Resolution

Share Adventure

Inse was feeling frustrated. His sister, Curity, had borrowed his favorite book and hadn’t returned it yet. He tried to ask her about it, but every time he did, she seemed busy or distracted. Inse couldn’t help but feel like his sister didn’t care about his feelings.

One day, as Inse was walking home from school, he decided that he couldn’t take it anymore. He burst through the front door of his house and confronted Curity, who was sitting on the couch with her phone in her hand.

“Security, you borrowed my book a week ago and still haven’t given it back to me! Don’t you care about my things?” Inse yelled, his voice filled with anger.

Curity put down her phone and looked up at her little brother. “Inse, I’m sorry. I’ve been really busy with school and I forgot about your book. I’ll get it for you right now.”

Inse felt a wave of relief wash over him. He realized that he had been so caught up in his anger that he hadn’t been able to listen to his sister’s explanation. He felt a little bit ashamed, but also proud of himself for speaking up.

As Curity handed him the book, she said, “Inse, I know you were upset, but next time, try to talk to me calmly and explain how you feel. Yelling won’t solve anything.”

Inse thought about what Curity had said. He realized that he hadn’t communicated his feelings effectively, and that had caused the conflict between him and his sister. He knew he needed to do better in the future.

Over the next few weeks, Inse tried to put Curity’s advice into practice. He started by taking a deep breath and counting to ten before reacting to things that made him upset. He also tried to explain his feelings calmly and listen to his sister’s point of view.

One day, Inse and Curity were playing outside when they noticed that their neighbors’ cat had gotten loose and was running around in their yard. Inse was excited to catch the cat, but Curity was worried about scaring it.

“Inse, let’s try to catch the cat without scaring it. We can use this box to make a trap,” Curity suggested.

Inse didn’t like the idea. He wanted to chase the cat and catch it as fast as possible. But he remembered what Curity had taught him about communication and conflict resolution. He took a deep breath and said, “Security, I hear what you’re saying. But I think we should try to catch the cat with a net instead. That way, we can be sure to catch it quickly and safely.”

Curity smiled at Inse. “That’s a great idea! Let’s go get a net from the garage.”

Inse felt proud of himself. He had used the five transformations to communicate effectively with his sister and resolve a conflict without getting angry or upset.

As they caught the cat together, Inse realized that he had learned an important lesson. Communication and conflict resolution weren’t just about solving problems. They were about listening to others and understanding their point of view.

From that day on, Inse and Curity communicated better than ever. They talked openly and honestly with each other, and learned to resolve conflicts without getting angry or upset.

The end.

Inse had learned to listen, and it had made all the difference.
