Inse slumped at the lunch table, poking at his sandwich. His mind replayed the moment from class when he got an answer wrong.
Everyone must think I’m dumb, his Voice of Insecurity whispered.
Curity sat across from him. “What’s up?” she asked.
Inse sighed. “I made a mistake in class. Now my mind won’t stop telling me I’m bad at school.”
Curity nodded. “That’s your Voice of Insecurity. But guess what? You don’t have to fight it or ignore it. You can befriend it.”
Inse frowned. “Why would I want to do that?”
Curity took an apple from her lunchbox and placed it on the table. “Think of your inner voices like two friends. The Voice of Insecurity points out mistakes to keep you safe. The Voice of Security helps you grow. If you only listen to one, you miss out on important lessons.”
Inse thought about it. “So… my Voice of Insecurity tells me what I’m afraid of, but my Voice of Security reminds me that I can learn from it?”
Curity smiled. “Exactly! When your Voice of Insecurity says, ‘You messed up,’ you can let your Voice of Security say, ‘That’s okay. You’re learning.’”
That night, Inse decided to try it. Every time his Voice of Insecurity whispered doubts, he let his Voice of Security answer back.
Days later, he walked into school feeling different. When he got nervous before a big presentation, his Voice of Insecurity said, You’re going to embarrass yourself.
But his Voice of Security answered, You’ve practiced. You’re ready.
And for the first time, he believed it.
After class, he rushed to Curity. “I did it! I presented, and I wasn’t even nervous!”
Curity grinned. “See? You didn’t silence your Voice of Insecurity—you befriended it.”
As they walked home, Inse felt something new: a balance between the two voices inside him.
And for the first time, he knew they could work together.
The End.
