Title: Inse and Curity: Choosing the Right Voice
Inse, Curity, and Max had been playing catch in the park for almost an hour. The game was fun—until it wasn’t.
Max threw the ball, but this time, it went too fast. WHAM! The ball smacked Inse right in the face.
“Ow!” Inse’s hands flew to his nose, which stung from the impact. His eyes burned with tears. “What was that for?” he snapped.
Max’s face paled. “I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to throw it that hard.”
But Inse wasn’t hearing it. His heart pounded with anger. Max doesn’t care about me at all, the voice of insecurity whispered. He’s not really my friend. You don’t need him.
Without another word, Inse turned and stomped off to a bench.
A few minutes later, Curity sat next to him. “That looked like it hurt.”
“It did,” Inse grumbled.
“And you’re mad,” Curity added.
Inse crossed his arms. “Of course, I am! Max didn’t even care. He just threw the ball right at me.”
Curity tilted her head. “Did he, though? Or is that the voice of insecurity talking?”
Inse blinked. “What?”
“You know, the voice that tells you the worst things about yourself and others. It’s saying Max doesn’t care. But what does the voice of security say?”
Inse frowned. He hadn’t thought about that. He sat still and listened.
Max invited you to play because he wanted to hang out with you. He apologized right away because he felt bad. If he didn’t care, he wouldn’t have said sorry.
Inse sighed. “I guess… I was too mad to hear him.”
Curity nodded. “That’s the tricky part. The voice of insecurity is loud when we’re upset. But the voice of security? That’s the one we should trust.”
Inse stood up. “I think I should tell Max I’m sorry for getting so mad.”
Curity smiled. “Good idea.”
When Inse walked back to the field, Max looked nervous. “Hey, I’m really sorry about—”
Inse shook his head. “No, I’m sorry for storming off. I know you didn’t mean it.”
Max grinned. “Friends?”
“Friends.”
They high-fived and kept playing, the afternoon sun shining down on their laughter.
And this time, when Inse heard the voice of security, he listened.
The End.
